Our Prayer This Week

From the Principal

Dear parents, carers and community members,
We are looking forward to the opportunity to continue our exploration of "Direct instruction" approach to teaching literacy this Thursday and Friday. We will meet on Thursday as a whole school staff to work with Greg Clement on options for school wide strategies and assessment tools. On Friday we will work as teams to plan for the implementation of some of the ideas discussed the day before. This is an exciting opportunity and we hope it makes marked improvement to the school.
Grade 6 Camp to Melbourne

Our school camp to Melbourne was a fantastic opportunity for our Grade 6 children to explore the city, learn about our cultural heritage and have a fun experience away with their schoolmates. The children's behaviour was impeccable and they supported one another through the challenges they encountered. Thanks to Tom Sinnott for his work organising the camp and to the staff who gave of their time and energy over the 3 days.

School Closure Days

St Patrick's school will be closed for professional development this Thursday 27th of October and Friday the 28th of October. On these days we will be continuing the development of our Literacy understandings and classroom proctice.
Melbourne Cup Public Holiday

St Patrick's Primary School will be closed on Tuesday 1st of November for the Melbourne Cup public holiday. School will be open as normal on Monday 31st of October.
SAC Meeting

There will be a SAC meeting tomorrow night, Tuesday 25th of October in the staffroom at 7pm.
Fr Bill Melican

Fr Bill Melican, long serving parish priest at St Patrick's Camperdown, passed away on the 15th of October. Mass celebrating his life will be held in St Patrick's Cathedral Ballarat today, Monday 24 October 2022 at 10:30am. May he rest in peace.
3/4 Hooptime Basketball
Last Tuesday our 3/4 Hooptime basketball teams travelled to Hamilton for the regional competition. The girls' team made it to the finals and missed out on progressing to the next level by just 4 points. The boys' team missed the finals by just 1 point. The children represented their school beautifully on the day and enjoyed the opportunity to compete at a high level. Thank you to Tarryn & Stacey for coaching.

Junior Swimming Program

Our Junior swimming and water safety program concludes this week. Our FDB, 1 M and 2B classes have their final three sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week. It has been a valuable opportunity to work on water safety before the warm weather arrives.
Sporting Schools Grant
We have been lucky enough to secure a $2200 grant from Sporting Schools, Mr K has been busy shopping and has puchased golf equipment for the 3/4 and junior areas. Hopefully we will discover the next Marc Leishman or Minjee Lee!

Catholic School Culture

Mission Month
October is Mission Month where we raise money to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable children in poverty around the world. The Mission boxes are in classrooms ready for collection, so please consider sending any loose change into school for the Missions. Our loose change can make a world of difference. Many thanks.
Friday Mass
There will be no Friday masses over the coming weeks. Friday masses will resume in November.

National Children’s Week
This week is National Children’s Week where we focus the attention of the wider community on children, their achievements and their right to enjoy childhood. This year’s theme is All Children have the right to a standard of living that supports their wellbeing and healthy development. A diverse range of events and activities are organised at National, State and Local level. For more information, please visit https://childrens-week.org.au/
National Mental Health Month

October is National Mental Health Month which is an initiative of the Mental Health Foundation Australia (MHFA) to advocate for and raise awareness of Australian mental health. It is an important time where the Australian community comes together to raise awareness and promote better mental health for all. The National Mental Health Month 2022 Awareness Campaign theme is: ‘Building Resilience: Communities and Connections’. Mental Health Australia invites organisations to participate in the "Look after your mental health, Australia" campaign which will run throughout October https://lookafteryourmentalhealthaustralia.org.au/
Prayer for Mental Health Month
Lord God, giver of life and health,
Comfort and relieve those challenged by serious and chronic mental and emotional illnesses. Give your power of healing to those who minister to their needs, that they may be strengthened in their weakness and have confidence in your loving care;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
