Our Prayer This Week

From the Principal

Dear parents, carers and community members,
Today we commence, what promises to be an action packed term of productions, camps, excursions and hopefully, lots of learning. We hope all our families had an opportunity to spend some quality time together over the break and that everyone is well and rested for the commencement of classes today.
Production Update

Costumes
The children are enjoying the excitement of the rapidly approaching school production. Dress rehearsal are happening this week and next week so we ask all parents to ensure that any costume items needed from home are here at school as soon as possible.
Tickets
Ticket allocation is going well and we remind you that tomorrow is your last opportunity to access your 4 family tickets. The remaining seats will go on sale on Wednesday for those wishing to acquire more than 4 seats. All preschool children will not need a seated ticket as they can sit on a lap. St Patrick's students in the performance will not need a ticket.
Production dates
Tuesday 11th of October at 12pm
Tuesday 11th of October at 7pm
Wednesday 12th of October at 7pm
After the show
Just a reminder that all students need to return to school after each show to remove their costumes and collect their things. Parents can pick up the Foundation students after 7:30pm and older children after 8:30pm from their classrooms. Teachers must record each child’s exit. Students may not be taken directly from the church.
Regional Athletics

We have a team of students representing St Patrick's at the Regional Athletics in Ballarat this Friday the 7th of October. We wish them every success on the day.
3/4 excursion Werribee Park
- 14 Oct 2022
- 7:15 AM to 5:15 PM
Postponed
Grade 3/4 Excursion will take place to Werribee this Friday. To tie in with our SOSE unit for Terms 3 and 4, the children will be going to the Werribee Zoo, which is an open range zoo. The children will get the opportunity to participate in an education session run by zoo staff and also take a safari bus trip in the park to observe the animals in an open habitat. We will use the knowledge gained from this experience to complete the remainder of our SOSE unit.
- Children will need to bring their snack, lunch and drink on the day.
- Children will wear their PE uniform on the day.
- As the program is an all-weather program children, will also need to bring a hat and a raincoat that is clearly labelled with their name.
- Children will not have the opportunity to spend money on the day and we ask that no money is sent with children.
Fun Day
Our "Fun Day" activities run by the Senior students on Thursday the 15th of September was a wonderful way to raise money for the missions, have some fun at the end of term and proudly display our footy colours. Thank you to the senior staff and students for all your work with this event.

Farewell

We said goodbye to Jayde, Lily and Makayla Melano on the last Friday of Term 3. They are moving house so will be attending another school in the district. We wish them every success with the move.

Catholic School Culture
Social Justice - Mini Vinnies Excursion
On the last day of term, the Mini Vinnies volunteers attended mass with Fr. Neville and then they visited the St. Vincent de Paul Centre for a guided tour to learn all about the social justice deeds that their volunteers enact. They learned how the items from the Winter Appeal and the Food Drive were used and much needed. The children asked some great questions and really enjoyed their visit. Thanks to Andrew, Mary and Barry for hosting us. Also the anniversary of St. Vincent de Paul is on October 27th.

World Teachers Day
Wednesday is World Teachers Day where we consider how grateful we are to have dedicated teachers and support staff contributing to the children’s education and guiding them as they grow and develop. We also acknowledge the challenges faced by educators and thank staff for their hard work and their commitment to their vocation.
Friday Mass
On Friday, Grades 3/4HP & 5/6C will be attending mass at St. Patrick’s Church at 9:30am.

Mercy Feast Day
The Feast Day for Our Lady of Mercy was in the holidays on September 24th. Children from Mercy (blue) House will celebrate this feast day at school tomorrow with treats in the Big Room. As the Mother of Jesus, our Merciful Redeemer, Our Lady is rightly named Mother of Mercy. The origin of this feast day dates back to the Middle Ages and the foundation of the Order of Our Lady of Mercy after Our Blessed Mother appeared to a young nobleman in France. Responding to her appeal for compassion and mercy for the men, women and children who were taken as prisoners from Europe to Africa as slaves by the Moors, Saint Peter Nolasco set out to redeem these people. He and his companions dedicated their lives and possessions to gathering alms to free them from their cruel captors. These slaves would otherwise have been forced to deny their faith. Protecting the faith of the captives who were persecuted because of their Christianity was the main objective of the heroic priests of Our Lady of Mercy who even offered and gave their own lives as ransom when there was not enough money. As their numbers grew, some of the priests extended their works of Mercy to include missionary work. Their work now has been expanded to those exposed to the dangers of denying their faith, the social, political and psychological forms of captivity in today’s world.
Spelling Championship
Congratulations to Chloe Anderson and Joel Hinkley on winning our annual spelling championships in the Senior school. Well done to all the students who qualified for the grand final.
