Newsletter 16/08/2021 Term 3 Week 26
From the Principal
Hello to everyone, welcome to week 26,
Hopefully this will be a solid week at school with children having had last week to settle back into the school routine.
We were lucky to get our Eucharist masses in on the weekend at both Cobden & Camperdown, for which we are very grateful. Many thanks to everyone for helping ensure that this happened. Special thanks to Tracy, the grade 3/4 team and to the parents who ultimately sacrificed extra family numbers at the mass so we could keep to our quota.
This week we have Mrs Judd away for the next 2 weeks on leave and the 5/6 Allstars girls and boys are playing basketball on Friday.
Enjoy the week ahead,
Mick
Prayer Reflection

Assembly

Assembly this week will once again be taped by a GoPro to produce a higher quality stream and will hopefully be out by early afternoon on Friday.
Last week was our first real go at this, hopefully you enjoyed the end result. We will get better as we go along. Well done to Mel Fox for all her hard work.
Restrictions Update
We are certainly hoping for a solid week here at school and looking forward to everybody keen & raring to go.
We still have some restrictions as we move forward:
- Restricting non essential staff in the school
- Keeping children home if they are not well
- Ensuring we are moving away quickly after after school pickups
- maintaining COVID rules & cleaning regimes
As usual if anything changes I will let you know.
Mrs Judd on Leave
Mrs Judd is away for the next 2 weeks on leave. If you would have usually contact her, please either contact Mel Fox or me during this time.
Marlene Justin
Our deepest sympathies to Marlene Justin on the death of her partner, John Dalbo, who died after a short illness last Friday. Marlene has been here at St Patrick's for a long time and we pass on the thoughts and prayers of the St Patrick's school community during this very sad time.
Casual Cleaner Position
We are looking for someone who may be interested in being available on a casual basis as a cleaner. If you have any interest please contact Deb or Mick at the school for further information.
BOOK WEEK

Book Swap for Book Week
Thursday 26th of August is our Book Week activities day. It will involve a dress up parade to be held from 9.00-9.30 followed by the great Book Swap, where purchases can be made.
The funds collected on the day will be forwarded to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. The fundraising page also allows anyone to make an online donation to St Pat's Great Book Swap. Follow this link to donate or find out more about the IndigenousLiteracy Foundation.

What you need to do
- check your book shelves at home for children's books that are in good condition but are no longer being read.
- Bring these books to school prior to August 26th.
- Send a gold coin donation with your child(ren) on Book Week activity day 26th August so they can purchase some ‘new’ books to read.
SPORT ACTIVITIES
We are still working through re-scheduling some upcoming events that have had to be postponed. Some updates are:
Friday 20th August - 5/6 All Stars (Held in Terang)
Friday 27th August - 3/4 All Stars (Held in Terang)
Friday 3rd September - 3/4 Rookies (Held in Camperdown)
5/6 Rookies (Held in Camperdown, Still to be re-scheduled)
WINTER SPORTS: Netball, mixed netball, Football: (Still to be re-scheduled)
REGIONAL HOCKEY (Still to be re-scheduled)
School Wide Positive Behaviours Systems (SWPBS)
Our focus for this week is again, Manners: specifically on how we deal when we need to interrupt someone.
Some of the things we will be targeting: Say excuse me for interruptions, please & thank-you, waiting turns, allowing others to pass, responding appropriately to adult requests, greeting people. We will be making up some little videos as buddy classes and distribute to the other teachers for them to show their class the behaviour we are looking for.
Parents can support us by ensuring these manners are also used at home.
A video made by some of the children here at school will be posted so parents can see some of the things we are aiming for.
Grade 6 Camp
We were in contact with World Strides on Friday in regards to our grade 6 camp and it is quickly getting towards the cut-off date for this camp with plane tickets due to be booked & confirmed very soon.
Obviously with NSW & ACT in lockdown, it is increasingly likely that we may need to look for an alternative local camp.
We are still hopeful and will leave the decision to the last minute, however things are looking grim due to the current scenarios interstate.
I will let you know how we go.
Grade 6 Trivia Night

The annual grade 6 trivia night has been set for Friday 27th of August, 6.30pm (for a 7.00 start)-9.30pm. At this stage we are hopeful this event will still take place and we will be keeping an eye on the restrictions.
This night traditionally has families booking teams to vie for the title of Trivia kings & queens of St Patrick's for the next 12 months.
Teams of up to 8 or so can be booked by filling out the form below, if you have any queries please phone Deb or Bec at the office.
The night consists of 6 rounds of questions with some entertaining games in between.
Teams bring along their own drinks & nibbles and it costs $10 per person to enter.
More information as we get closer to the night.
This has always been one of the best social nights the school runs for the year and is full of fun, laughs and quality time spent with family & friends.
All money raised goes towards assisting the grade 6 camp fund and is designed to subsidise $200 per child towards the camp. It is a truly worthy cause.
Please consider booking a spot at this event. At this stage we have 3 tables booked in for the night.

Social Justice: Mini Vinnies
This term the Mini Vinnies children will be conducting a toy drive. They will be collecting clean toys in good condition which will be donated to St. Vincent de Paul at the end of this term in readiness for Christmas. If you have any toys that are no longer used or the children have grown out of, please wash them and send them into school to donate to the Mini Vinnies volunteers. They will be collecting from the classrooms every week or alternately, toys can be left at the office. This will greatly assist in bringing joy to children at Christmas time. Thank-you in advance.
