Newsletter 09/08/2021 Term 3 Week 25

From the Principal

St Patrick's School Calendar

Hello to everyone, welcome to week 25,

Talk about a roller coaster. Thinking one way, changing to another, back to the previous.

Anyway the good news is that we are all back onsite from tomorrow, which is great for everyone concerned. Many thanks for your prayers t0 get us back to school.

Can I thank families for their support over the last week. We are all under pressure in our own ways and I have appreciated working with families so that we can come up with the best outcomes possible.

We are still not sure that any of the sports set for this week will be reinstated, once we get confirmation we will let you know as soon as possible. Last week we had very short notice that events could occur, so this may happen again. This weekend's Eucharist celebrations will still go ahead, as we have reverted to pre-lockdown restrictions which allow for this. I would ask other parishoners to consider not going this weekend just so we can be safe with the numbers that will attend.

Our PD day for staff which was to be next Monday has now been postponed to a date later in the year, as I am unable to do PD or staff meetings. This means that it will be a 'normal' day for students on Monday and they will be here at school.

Whoa, lots happening so hold onto your hats.

Enjoy the week ahead,

Mick

Learning

Back to School

We are back to school after the short lockdown. Many thanks to everyone for your support over the past few days.

Like everyone I am very happy that children will be back at school from tomorrow and hope that we can continue being on site for the rest of the year.

We revert back to the restrictions we had before lockdown 6.0 which are:

  • Restricting non essential staff in the school
  • Keeping children home if they are not well
  • Ensuring we are moving away quickly after pickups
  • maintaining COVID rules & cleaning regimes

RE Closure Day

Our RE closure day which was to be held next Monday has had to be postponed until later in the year.

This now means that school will be as 'normal' for students on Monday with them  being here at school.

Apologies for any inconvenience - another event pushed back until later in the year!

    Cross Country

Apologies, it was remiss of me not to mention that a few weeks ago we had Piper Stephens, Isaac Lawlor  & Maddi Mitchell competing at the Regional cross country.

Maddi came 10th & is now invited to the state champs later in the year. Piper came 27th of 49 & Isaac came 25th of 52. Congratulations to these children on their wonderful effort.

    Foodbank

Thankyou to everyone who has recently sent in meals for the food bank. We have already sent out most of the meals to families in need and we would be very grateful for anything you can donate to our Food Bank Freezer.  Just send into the office with the ingredients & the date made both listed. Thanks in anticipation.

It is certainly something that is appreciated by the families we support with these meals.

School Wide Positive Behaviours Systems (SWPBS)

Our focus for this week is again, Manners

Some of the things we will be targeting: Say excuse me for interruptions, please & thank-you, waiting turns, allowing others to pass, responding appropriately to adult request, greeting people. We will be making up some little videos as buddy classes and get it out to the other teachers for them to show the behaviour we are looking for.

Parents can support us by ensuring these manners are also used at home.

A video made by some of the children here at school will be posted so parents can see some of the things we are aiming for.

    Grade 6 Trivia Night

The annual grade 6 trivia night has been set for Friday 27th of August, 6.30pm (for a 7.00 start)-9.30pm. This night traditionally has families booking teams to vie for the title of Trivia kings & queens of St Patrick's for the next 12 months.

Teams of up to 8 or so can be booked by filling out the form below, if you have any queries please phone Deb or Bec at the office.

The night consists of 6 rounds of questions with some entertaining games in between.

Teams bring along their own drinks & nibbles and it costs $10 per person to enter.

More information as we get closer to the night.

This has always been one of the best social nights the school runs for the year and is full of fun, laughs and quality time spent with family & friends.

All money raised goes towards assisting the grade 6 camp fund and is designed to subsidise $200 per child towards the camp. It is a truly worthy cause.

Please consider booking a spot at this event. At this stage we have 3 tables booked in for the night.

There will be restrictions in place eg mask wearing, signing in, social distancing, however we will take the opportunity to complete this sacrament while we can.

I would ask other parishoners who don't have to go to church this weekend to consider not going just so we can safely have the Eucharist numbers in the church.

Another reminder to please consider nominating St Patrick's as your preferred organisation when shopping at IGA. Over the years we have received over $40,000 (around $2000 per year), which goes towards classroom resources.  It is easy to join either using a phone and downloading the Ritchies Card App from the App store or Google Play, or by going online to www.ritchies.com.au/loyalty using a tablet or desk top computer. You can then pick up a physical card available from the friendly cashiers in-store, which you then link to your app or online account.
