Our Prayer

From the Principal

Term 4 has commenced very smoothly and the students have settled quickly into the routine of school. I had the opportunity to take a break for a week of leave last week and I would like to thank the school leaders for the excellent job they have done in my absence. It is difficult, however, returning to this weather after the warmth of Far North Queensland. Our Grade 6 students headed off to Melbourne today and we wish them a safe and enjoyable time away.
LEARNING AND TEACHING
Visitors and Viewing
Last week we welcomed principals and teachers from St. John's Dennington and St. Patrick's Port Fairy. These schools are in the process of selecting resources and programs for their schools, and had heard of our Literacy work. Staff from these schools discussed our work with Mel and spent time in classrooms during our Literacy Block watching, talking with staff and students about Little Learners Love Literacy, The Writing Revolution and other practices that are a part of building students' skills and knowledge.

Mixed Netball Team Award

Our mixed netball side were recognised by the Corangamite Sportsman's club last week to win the junior team award for the month of September.
Our team attended the dinner where they received their award and participation in the activities of the evening with respect and attentive listening to the other award recipients. They even continued their successful form in winning most of the raffle prizes!
Camperdown Show
A large number of our students entered items in the Camperdown Show on the weekend and, despite the poor weather, enjoyed sharing their talents with family and friends who visited the displays. The photo below shows the students who received commendations and Olivia Barber who was awarded the "Peoples choice" award for her art. Thank you to all our staff who worked with the children and especially to Noelene for her work and dedication to this community event.

CATHOLIC SCHOOL CULTURE

The Feast of St. Luke the Evangelist
This Wednesday October 18th is the Feast of Saint Luke, the Evangelist. Saint Luke is one of the Four Evangelists, the four authors of the canonical gospels. The Early Church Fathers ascribed to him authorship of both the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. Saint Luke has been identified with St. Paul's "Luke, the beloved physician" Colossians 4:14.
We know few other facts about Luke's life from Scripture and from early Church historians. It is believed that Luke was born a Greek and a Gentile. In fact according to the early Church historian Eusebius Luke was born at Antioch in Syria. Antioch is the first place where followers of Jesus Christ were referred to as ‘Christians’.
It is only in Luke’s gospel that we hear the parable of the Good Samaritan, that we hear Jesus praising the faith of Gentiles such as the widow of Zarephath and Naaman the Syrian (Luke 4:25-27), and that we hear the story of the one grateful leper who is a Samaritan (Luke 17:11-19).
His gospel is quite short and is probably the easiest of the gospels to read … why not give it a go ?!?

LEADERSHIP AND STEWARDSHIP
Pupil Free Day 6th Nov
A reminder that our staff have an RE Professional Development day on Monday November 6th, no children will attend that day. Enjoy the extra long weekend!
School Hats

As the weather is warming up it is important that you send your child's hat into school.
The children are not allowed outside without their hat this term.
School Uniform

The School Advisory Council are working very hard on reviewing our school uniform and a second opportunity for feedback will be made available to the school community in the near future. Thank you for your patience as we undertake this important task.
Schoolzine App

We have noticed on our records that quite a few parents have not subscribed to the SZApp.
The Schoolzine App is a vital way that we communicate with our parents.
If you do not have the app on your phone could you please ensure you download it as soon as convenient.
It will ask you for a passcode which is 2561.
Attached below are the instructions on how to download the app.
School fees
Just a reminder that we are three quarters of the way through the year!! Our governing body is looking at our fee collection and will be asking questions about any fees that haven't either been paid, have a payment plan or signed paperwork, very soon. It is a requirement by DOBCEL that all school fees are paid by the end of the year. If you haven't set up a payment plan yet or signed paperwork stating how you intend to pay, please contact the office ASAP.
If you need any assistance or have any questions please contact Tim or Debbie, thank you.
Known Dates for Term 4

Building Program

We have finally completed all of the requirements for our building program for our new Senior School wing and tenders for the job were sent out to six building companies during the school holidays. These will now submit a quote for the job and once the contract is awarded, we will hopefully have action on the site at some stage in the second half of this term.
