Our Prayer

From the Principal

Dear parents, carers and community members,
We have a number of opportunities for the children to experience some visiting people to our school over the next few weeks. We had Possum Magic last week, a football clinic today, ahead we have Hooptime days, Book Week, Mercy dress rehearsal, Mercy students working with classes on projects and a visit from Trinity Colac choral singers. It is always great to break up the demands of learning with some enjoyable sessions.
You may notice some changes to our newsletter. The organisation of St Patrick's is broken into 5 key areas and these classifications are used in many aspects of the school.
1. Learning and Teaching
2. Wellbeing
3. Catholic School Culture
4. Leadership and Stewardship
5. Community Engagement
These headings are now used in our newsletter to organise the information shared to parents and the community into each of these areas.

The Week Ahead

A great day was had at Hooptime basketball on Friday in Terang. The boys team had a good day winning two games, losing two and coming a draw in the consolation final.
The girls were fantastic, winning all their games and progressing to the next stage in November. Once again all students were terrificly behaved.
The Hooptime basketball competition continues with the following events.

Hooptime 3/4 All stars - Friday 18th August
Hooptime 3/4 Rookies - Friday 25th August

Footy Clinic

Today a representative from AFL Primary Play Program came to run a footy clinic with our junior school. Students in Foundation, Grade 1 and Grade 2 were involved in a 1 hour session that taught the fundamentals of AFL Football through fun and engaging games and activities.
WELLBEING
CATHOLIC SCHOOL CULTURE

Mary of the Cross MacKillop Feast Day
Tomorrow 8th of August we celebrate the Feast Day of Mary of the Cross MacKillop. Mary MacKillop is an important Australian having spent her life helping people, especially children. After she died the Sisters of Saint Joseph continued to perform the work she started.
Mary MacKillop was declared Australia’s very first Saint on 17 October 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican in Rome. To commemorate this event, the schools of the Hampden Catholic Schools Network held a joint celebration. A photo of the combined schools on the Mercy Oval in the shape of a Josephite Cross can be viewed in the McKinnon Room.
To attain the title Saint, the Catholic Church must recognise two miracles. Mary’s first miracle was recognised by the church in 1995 when a woman was cured of leukaemia in 1961, a second miracle was recognised in 2010 when a woman was given a month to live due to inoperable lung and brain cancer in the 1990s She was cured after wearing a relic of Mary’s clothing attached to her night clothes and through prayer.

LEADERSHIP AND STEWARDSHIP
Welcome

This week we welcome Remy Gaut back to St Patrick's for work experience. We hope she finds her time with us enjoyable and rewarding as she works with students across the school.
Taster Day

On Thursday 17th of August we are holding a "Taster Day" for families to experience what it is like at St Patrick's, so that they can choose if this is the place for their child to attend school. The children at Baranbali Camperdown Kindergarten and Banana Splits on this day will attend with their teachers. If your child is not at these centres on this day or attends another preschool, you are most welcome to join us from 9:30am to 11am.
Lions Eye Health Program

The Lions Eye tests for Foundation and Grade 6 students will take place on Monday the 14th August.
If you would like your child to be tested and they are not in Foundation or Grade 6, please contact the office.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Community Meal
Well done 5/6CH for providing the community meal to members of the Camperdown community last week. The Grade 5s did a great job setting up, the Grade 6s served and cleaned up beautifully and the parents provided some beautiful food to share. I was delighted to hear some of the guests say that they always attended when St Patrick's are on duty as the meal is always first rate.
