Trinity Sunday 4th June

From the Principal

Dear parents, carers and community members,
Last week we celebrated Catholic Education Week which gave us an opportunity to focus on all the things that make our school special and all the opportunities for our students to grow and achieve.
School Uniform Review

St Patrick's School Advisory Council are undertaking a review of our school uniform with the aim to restructure the options available for students to wear across the school year. The first part of this is to survey parents, staff and students as to what they value in our current uniform and what changes they would like to see implemented. This survey has been sent out and we are receiving responses now. If you did not receive this survey, please contact the school.
The survey closes this Friday the 2nd June.
In the interim we are asking parents to make do with what uniform they have and just monitor neatness and things like the correct socks and shoes please.
Sport Uniform Returns
Hi everyone,
So far this year I have been very impressed with the energy and efforts that students have demonstrated in PE classes. These character traits have also been on show when we have competed at inter school competitions in the pool, track and field, cross country as well as the 5/6 Tri SPorts.
I am in the process of auditing and creating an inventory of all our school sporting attire. This includes singlets, netball dresses, basketball tops, swimming caps, footy jumpers etc.
It would be of great assistance if you do happen to have any of these school items at your home could you please return them to me at school ASAP .
Thanks very much.
Mr Harkin
Spare Clothes
As the ovals are getting muddier, the time has come to send a spare pair of clothes including shorts, t-shirt and socks with your child. If your child plays footy during the break, it would be great if you could send a football jumper with them to wear over their school t-shirt to save it getting muddy.
Winter Woolies Day

This Thursday the 1st of June is a Winter Woolies Day.
Please wear your warmest winter woolies - casual clothes- to school on this day.
Please note there is no charge for this day.
Winter Tri-sports
Last Tuesday many students represented St Patrick's in the TriSports- Soccer, Football and Netball. The football and netball teams played very well but were unable to qualify for the next level of competition. The mixed netball team and the soccer team won their events and will now represent the school at the division winter sports in Warrnambool on Friday 9th of June.

Parents Association Meeting

Our parents association meeting last week continued to focus on the fundraising and social events for 2023. The next meeting will be on Tuesday 18th of July where we will plan for events in 2024. We would love to have some new faces at this meeting, so please pop it in your diary, grab a friend and come along to the meeting at 7pm in the staffroom.
Wellbeing News
Network Day

Our Hampden Catholic Schools network day was a great success last Friday. Our Foundation, Grade 1 and Grade 2 stayed at St Patrick's, Grades 3 & 4 went to St Colman's in Mortlake and Grades 5 & 6 went to St Thomas' in Terang. This is always an exciting day for all our students as they make friends, work and play with students from our other network schools.

Junior School Parish Mass - This Sunday
This Sunday June 4th the Junior School will be leading the Parish Mass at St. Patrick's Church at 11.00 am. The children will be involved with some of the readings and assisting with the singing. The Mass will be led by Fr. Denis Ryan whilst Fr. Neville is on holiday.
A separate note will be sent home by your child’s teacher. Please return the form attached to the note by Wednesday so that we can allocate roles for the children who will be attending.
Please remember all school families are most welcome!

Trinity Sunday

This Sunday as well as being our Junior School Parish Mass is Trinity Sunday. One of the more interesting experiences in my life was when I was at a Redemptorist Monastery in Kew on Trinity Sunday. I joined the community for Mass followed by lunch. One of the priests brought in a painting representing the Trinity and spoke about it in his Homily. At the lunch afterwards there was a great discourse on the merits and interpretation of the story - it was amazing to hear all the different opinions.
Sr. Veronica Lawson RSM writes that Trinity Sunday celebrates the core Christian conviction that God is a communion of relational love. For the people of Israel, no other god could compare with their God whom they knew as both creator and liberator and whom they experienced as intimately involved in every aspect of their history and of their day-to-day lives.
The earliest Christians inherited the Jewish belief in one God. At the same time, Christians expressed their faith in distinctively Trinitarian language. Over the first six centuries of the Christian era, the belief that God is a communion of love was to develop into the doctrine of the Trinity, a teaching that is at the heart of Christian faith. The word Trinity is not used in the Christian Scriptures. In fact, it was not until the Council of Constantinople in 381CE that the doctrine of the Trinity was set out in the creed, and not until the Second Council of Constantinople in 551CE that the word “Trinity” was actually used of the Triune God.
